Things to do

Dublinia

The Dublinia exhibition covers the formative period of Dublin's history from the arrival of the Anglo-Normans in 1170 to the closure of the monasteries in the 1540s.

While interactive features of the exhibition date from a pre-digital age, this exhibition is still regarded the best of its kind in the city. There are many exhibits here which include videos, models and reconstructions. The ground floor houses a large-scale model of Dublin around 1500, a display of artefacts from Wood Quay, and reconstructions.

Although no match for the Gravity Bar in the Guinness Storehouse,  St Michael’s Tower provides a fine view of the heart of old Dublin.

Dublin Zoo

Founded in 1830 Dublin Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world.  Dublin's animal house is now home to over 650 species, including endangered the snow leopard. In terms of layout it is the essence of a modern, eco-conscious facility, with tigers, elephants, chimps and hundreds more given all the time and space they need to feel right at home. The zoo is also run with children very much in mind, as evidenced by the Pets' Corner, the Zoo Train, and the ample picnic facilities and play areas. Far from miniature in scale: the impressive Asian Plains, for example, is a 32-acres expanse of pasture and woodland, home to some splendid white rhinos and the ever-expanding family of elephants.
